Novi, Michigan – May 1, 2024 – Automate 2024 in Chicago, running from May 6th to May 9th, is witnessing the integration of artificial intelligence into robotic applications, a trend referred to as “physical AI.” This advancement is expanding the capabilities of robots, enabling them to perceive their environment akin to humans, thus handling variations without extensive prior programming. Universal Robots (UR) is prominently featured at the event, with over 50 of its robots demonstrating various AI-driven functionalities across the show floor.
Ujjwal Kumar, the group president of Teradyne Robotics, the parent company of Universal Robots, commented on this evolution, stating, “We are witnessing the dawn of intelligent automation, where robots can dynamically learn from and adapt to their surroundings. This transformative shift turns robots into intelligent collaborators, enhancing workplace productivity and creativity.”
At booth #1541, UR is showcasing an AI-powered autonomous inspection solution that boasts path planning speeds 50-80 times faster than current solutions. This advancement is made possible through collaboration with NVIDIA, utilizing accelerated path planning tools. UR’s soon-to-be-released PolyScope X operating software integrates these AI capabilities, laying the groundwork for further developments.
In addition to its own innovations, UR is also highlighting partner solutions leveraging AI. Photoneo, a UR Marketplace partner, is unveiling a new AI-enabled multi-view localization solution for 3D bin picking at booth #619. Siemens is introducing SIMATIC Robot Pick AI at booth #1841, a pre-trained vision software for autonomous bin picking applications in warehousing and e-commerce.
UR is debuting its new high torque cobot, the UR30, at Automate, showcased by partner ESTIC. The UR30 utilizes Electric Pulse technology to achieve smooth process tightening with significant torque. Another addition, the UR20, will demonstrate its capabilities in palletizing solutions provided by Robotiq’s PE20.
To ensure maximum uptime for its cobots, UR is introducing UR Care at Automate. This service offering guarantees prompt onsite repairs and 24/7 remote support, aiming to deliver unparalleled assistance to customers.
At the event, UR is also collaborating with sister company Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) to showcase a mobile cobot solution. Additionally, guided tours of the UR Ecosystem will provide visitors with insights into various partner solutions. Educational initiatives, such as the UR Education Zone, aim to engage students and educators, showcasing the potential of UR cobots in educational settings.
Teradyne Robotics’ Ujjwal Kumar expressed excitement about engaging with customers at Automate, reaffirming their commitment to supporting customers at every stage of their cobot journey.
