The UN General Assembly has adopted a political declaration renewing global commitment to the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, with a stronger focus on sustainable, inclusive, and resilient cities.
The declaration sets priorities around social inclusion, poverty reduction, sustainable urban prosperity, environmental resilience, and stronger multilevel partnerships.
It also recognizes data, technology, and innovation as important enablers for improving urban development and calls for stronger coordination to support implementation.
With 58% of the global population already living in cities and the share projected to reach 70% by 2050, the agreement highlights the growing importance of resilient urban infrastructure, effective local governance, and sustainable investment.
The midterm review also emphasizes the need to close financing gaps, strengthen local governments, build capacity, and improve coordination across development priorities.
For supply chains, the renewed focus on resilient cities could support better infrastructure, stronger connectivity, smarter urban logistics, and more sustainable transportation networks as urban populations continue to grow.
