The UK logistics sector is seeing a strong rebound in recruitment, with HGV driver vacancies rising 35.4% in June compared with May, highlighting renewed demand for skilled transport workers.
During the second quarter, 30,421 HGV driver vacancies were advertised, up 20.8% quarter-on-quarter and 10.2% year-on-year. Across the wider logistics and distribution sector, employers posted 76,639 vacancies, a 16.5% increase from the previous quarter.
The growth reflects continued activity across freight transportation, distribution and supply chain operations. However, logistics employers are still facing challenges in finding workers with the right skills, with half of surveyed businesses saying recruitment has become more difficult over the past year.
Rising employment costs are adding further pressure, while advertised salaries increased only 2.28% year-on-year. This is encouraging businesses and industry groups to place greater emphasis on vocational training and stronger links between education providers and logistics employers.
Planned reforms in the UK are expected to strengthen connections between schools, colleges and local businesses, helping develop training programs aligned with regional workforce needs.
The continued increase in logistics vacancies points to sustained demand for transport and supply chain talent, while investment in skills development could help the sector address its workforce gaps and support future growth.
