Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], May 27 (ANI): Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ)’s Mundra Port has marked a significant milestone by accommodating the largest container ship to ever dock at an Indian port, according to a press release from the conglomerate. The MSC Anna vessel arrived at Mundra Port on Sunday. The MSC Anna measures 399.98 meters in length and has a capacity of 19,200 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), making it the largest container ship by capacity to visit an Indian port. Its arrival draft is 16.3 meters, which is only feasible at Adani Ports, Mundra, due to its ability to berth deep-draft vessels.

During its stay, the vessel is expected to handle an exchange of approximately 12,500 TEUs, demonstrating Mundra Port’s capability to manage large-scale cargo operations efficiently. Previously, in July 2023, Adani Ports, Mundra set a record by berthing the MV MSC Hamburg, one of the longest container ships globally, measuring 399 meters and holding a capacity of 16,652 TEUs. The port continued to achieve significant milestones in 2023, including handling 16 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo in a single month in October and managing 3 million TEUs in a year at its CT-3 container terminal. In November 2023, the terminal handled over 300,000 TEUs in one month, the highest ever for any terminal in India.

“Adani Ports, Mundra has developed into a crucial hub for both domestic and international trade due to its strategic planning and advanced facilities. Covering over 35,000 acres, it is India’s largest commercial port, with deep draft and all-weather capabilities that facilitate efficient cargo evacuation and reduced turnaround times for vessels,” the release stated.

The arrival of MSC Anna at Mundra underscores the port’s capacity to handle large ships and its role in advancing India’s maritime trade capabilities. As APSEZ continues to enhance its facilities, Mundra Port is poised to play an increasingly significant role in the global shipping and logistics sector. (ANI)
