U.S. Manufacturing Growth Reaches Four-Year High as Factory Activity Accelerates

in Economic Indicators, Global Trade

The United States’ manufacturing sector expanded at its fastest pace in more than four years in July, signaling stronger momentum across production, new orders, employment, and trade activity.

The Manufacturing PMI rose to 55.6, marking the seventh consecutive month of expansion and the strongest reading since May 2022. Factory output accelerated sharply, while new orders, exports, and imports all returned to stronger growth, reflecting resilient demand and increased manufacturing activity.

Higher production also supported job creation, with manufacturing employment returning to expansion for the first time in nearly three years. Businesses continued increasing purchasing activity to meet demand, although supplier delivery times remained longer due to stronger order volumes.

Despite continued cost pressures from higher raw material prices and geopolitical disruptions affecting global shipping routes, manufacturers maintained a positive outlook, supported by sustained investment, growing export demand, and continued expansion across most major industries.

The stronger manufacturing performance highlights improving supply chain activity as production, procurement, logistics, and international trade continue to gain momentum.
