An important worldwide effort to tackle cyber fraud has resulted in more than 5,500 arrests and the recovery of $400 million in digital assets and government-backed money. This operation, called HAECHI V, was a joint effort by authorities from 40 countries and took place from July to November 2024. It aimed at various forms of fraud, including schemes like voice phishing, online scams, and fraud related to e-commerce. One of the biggest achievements of the operation was breaking up a voice phishing ring in Korea and Beijing, which had led to losses of $1.1 billion. INTERPOL also issued a warning about new fraud tactics related to cryptocurrencies, such as the USDT Token Approval Scam, which tricks victims into compromising their cryptocurrency wallets.
