Taiwan Expands U.S. Investment Footprint

The automotive industry is accelerating efforts to reduce supply chain emissions by improving material sourcing, increasing recycled content, and adopting cleaner production methods across vehicle manufacturing.

A new generation of vehicles has achieved significant reductions in lifecycle emissions, with major improvements coming from the supply chain rather than vehicle use alone. Key contributors include battery production, aluminum, and steel, which remain among the most impactful areas for reducing carbon emissions in electric vehicle manufacturing.

Battery materials continue to represent one of the largest opportunities for supply chain decarbonization. Manufacturers are focusing on cleaner energy sources for battery production, improving material efficiency, and expanding the use of recycled inputs. However, limited availability of recycled battery-grade materials remains a challenge for achieving further reductions.

Beyond batteries, steel and aluminum are also playing a major role in building more sustainable supply networks. Increasing the use of secondary materials, renewable energy in production, and collaboration with suppliers are helping reduce the environmental impact of automotive manufacturing.

As the transition toward cleaner mobility continues, stronger supply chain partnerships, responsible sourcing, and circular economy practices are becoming essential for creating more sustainable and resilient automotive industries.
