South Korea’s manufacturing sector continued its expansion in August, marking a ninth consecutive month of growth, supported by strong export demand and steady new orders.
The country’s Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) reached 52.3 in August, remaining above the 50 point threshold that indicates expansion. New orders also stayed in growth territory at 53.5, reflecting continued demand for manufactured goods.
A notable driver was export demand, which recorded its strongest increase since November 2020. The trend highlights the continued importance of South Korea’s manufacturing and export networks within global supply chains, particularly as demand for artificial intelligence and semiconductor related products grows.
The manufacturing momentum is also supported by the country’s semiconductor sector, which contributed to stronger economic performance in the second quarter. Rising semiconductor exports are helping reinforce production activity and strengthen connections across technology, manufacturing, and international trade supply chains.
