Singtel has announced the launch of its GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) offering in Singapore and Southeast Asia, set for the third quarter of 2024. This innovative cloud computing solution will provide on-demand access to graphics processing units (GPUs), catering to a variety of applications including AI model training, machine learning, graphics rendering, and data processing.
The service will initially utilize Nvidia H100 GPU-powered clusters within Singtel’s upgraded data centers in Singapore. Plans are in place to extend GPUaaS to Singtel’s three forthcoming sustainable AI data centers in Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia, which are currently under development by Nxera, Singtel’s regional data center business. Over the next three years, Singtel aims to deploy over 100 megawatts of data center capacity through Nxera.
In a significant move, Singtel will also be one of the first globally to deploy Nvidia’s GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchips when they become available in early 2025. These chips are expected to offer a substantial performance boost, delivering 30 times faster real-time large language model inference compared to their predecessors.
Bill Chang, chief executive of Singtel’s Digital InfraCo and Nxera, highlighted that the GPUaaS will operate in AI-ready data centers, equipped with liquid-cooling technologies for efficient and eco-friendly computing. This setup aims to offer enterprise customers the flexibility to leverage AI technologies without the need for heavy investment in data center infrastructure. Singtel has already observed significant interest from both the private and public sectors eager to implement AI solutions swiftly and cost-effectively.
In addition to its cloud computing initiative, Singtel revealed the launch of Paragon-S at the Satellite 2024 Conference & Exhibition in Washington, DC. This digital aggregation and orchestration platform, developed in-house and based on Singtel’s patented Paragon platform, integrates satellite connectivity with terrestrial network services. It allows enterprises to seamlessly transition applications between satellite and public cloud services, addressing business needs.
Paragon-S is positioned as the satellite industry’s first comprehensive orchestration platform, designed to enhance operational resilience, optimize costs, and open new revenue opportunities through edge computing and AI applications. Chang emphasized that Paragon-S aims to transform satellite operators into platform companies for enterprises, leveraging Singtel’s partner ecosystem to expedite the development and market introduction of new use cases.
