In a significant move set to reshape the logistics landscape of the Middle East, South Korea’s CJ Logistics has entered into a strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Nesma Co. The collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed at CJ Logistics’ headquarters in Seoul, signaling both companies’ intention to jointly explore business ventures and prioritize collaborative projects within Saudi Arabia.
This alliance is poised to introduce significant advancements to the logistics sector in the Middle East. Earlier in the week, Nesma Group’s delegation had an opportunity to visit CJ Logistics’ state-of-the-art logistics technology centers in Incheon GDC and Gunpo Smart Fulfillment Center, showcasing the technological prowess CJ Logistics plans to leverage in this partnership.
Nesma Group, established in 1979, is a diversified conglomerate with a strong presence in several sectors, including construction, finance, and logistics. With 51 subsidiaries, the group operates across four countries: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and Turkey, bringing a wealth of regional knowledge and network to this partnership.
Kang Byung-koo, head of CJ Logistics’ Global Business Division, shared his enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the goal to significantly enhance their presence in the Middle Eastern logistics market through this collaboration with Nesma Group.
Further cementing its commitment to expanding in the Middle East, CJ Logistics previously signed a business agreement with the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority in May. This agreement aims to establish a global distribution center in the region to manage international shipments for iHerb, a global online health and lifestyle retailer. Slated for operations next year, the facility will span 18,000 square meters and boast a daily processing capacity of 15,000 boxes, with CJ Logistics’ Middle Eastern subsidiary, CJ ICM, managing local logistics operations.
CJ Logistics offers an integrated, one-stop solution for supply chain management, providing services that include air and sea international freight forwarding, warehousing, and contract logistics services. The company also specializes in asset-based transportation, parcel and express delivery, and supply chain consulting. With a technology-driven approach, CJ Logistics operates across 249 bases in 36 countries worldwide, underlining its global footprint and expertise in the logistics sector.
