Taiwan has eased import restrictions on food products from five Japanese prefectures, allowing the importation of all Japanese food items under general conditions. This includes mushrooms, game meat, and koshiabura (a type of mountain vegetable) from Fukushima, as well as from Chiba, Gunma, Ibaraki, and Tochigi prefectures. Despite this relaxation, inspection reports for radioactive materials and certificates of origin for these products will still be required.
Additionally, Taiwan has lifted the requirement for radioactive material inspection reports for fishery products from Iwate and Miyagi prefectures, and tea from Shizuoka Prefecture. This marks a shift in Taiwan’s import policy, which previously had stricter restrictions compared to other regions. The adjustments were based on scientific evidence and international standards, according to Taiwan’s health authorities.
The decision followed a 60-day public consultation and is part of Taiwan’s broader strategy to support economic recovery in affected regions and enhance trade relations. The changes are also aligned with Taiwan’s ongoing efforts to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which includes Japan among its member economies.
