This strategy was outlined during a recent meeting of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which emphasized the need to build self-supporting and risk-controllable industrial and supply chains. The session also stressed that China will continue to deepen reform and expand international collaboration in this area.
Zhang Qingwei, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, highlighted China’s role as a key participant and supporter of global supply chains. He noted that the country will seek deeper integration into the international supply chain system while advocating for open trade and resisting protectionist policies. Recent trends indicate growth in China’s emerging sectors such as new energy and advanced technologies. Zhang Yansheng, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Macroeconomic Research, mentioned that despite global challenges, China will continue to advance reforms, enhance its legal and regulatory environment, and promote green development.
Business leaders agree that collaboration and interconnected supply chains are essential for future economic growth. Neil Bush, chairman of the George H.W. Bush Foundation for US-China Relations, stated that countries relying solely on local manufacturing may face significant obstacles, and global cooperation in innovation and technology will be key to overcoming these barriers. As China further integrates its companies into global supply chains, Wang Yang, president of SinoEV (Hefei) Powertrain Technologies, emphasized that building a competitive supply chain involves long-term planning and robust policy support. He pointed out that China’s comprehensive supply chain for new energy sectors, including electric vehicle technologies, will continue to provide benefits for companies around the world.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China remains the only country with all industrial categories under the United Nations Industrial Classification, covering a wide array of both traditional and emerging industries. Zeng Yuqun, founder of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL), a prominent electric vehicle battery manufacturer, stated that international collaboration within the new energy sector is essential, and CATL is actively seeking to share its technology and expertise with the global market. China’s focus on enhancing its industrial and supply chain systems is expected to contribute to greater stability and innovation in global trade, while providing a platform for sustainable economic development.
