QLD Supply Chains Enhanced by Second Emergency Planning Declaration

by Geraldine S.

in Supply Chain

A second emergency planning declaration has been issued by Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie, allowing additional Local Government Areas (LGAs) to operate around the clock to support the replenishment of essential supplies. The move, which expands the declaration to 18 more LGAs, aims to sustain the food supply chain in flood-affected regions across Far North Queensland, North Queensland, and Northwest Queensland.

This declaration permits shops, warehouses, and transport depots to operate 24/7, ensuring that goods can be delivered efficiently and more supplies are available to Queensland residents. Currently, 29 LGAs across Queensland are covered under the Applicable Event declaration.

Jarrod Bleijie, Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, emphasized that this decision provides regions with additional time to restore critical supplies. “As the flooding situation evolves, grocery suppliers are exploring all options via road, sea, and air to ensure continued access to essential products,” said Bleijie.

The declaration also acknowledges the importance of flexibility for businesses and public sector employees, who may need to adjust their operations to meet the challenges presented by the situation. Furthermore, the Planning Minister has extended some development assessment processes due to potential staffing constraints.

This Applicable Event is set to remain in place until April 30, 2025, unless further changes occur.
