The individual, initially known to the organization as Matthew Smith, was later identified as Nathan Hudson, a 41-year-old who is currently wanted by Humberside Police in connection with various fraud cases.
Upon Hudson’s resignation, the railway’s staff and volunteers discovered financial irregularities that were subsequently linked to deliberate acts of fraud. Hudson allegedly created fake profiles and fabricated supporting documentation to maintain his false identity. He reportedly used his well-liked character to gain trust and build relationships within the organization, leading to significant financial and personal impacts on staff and volunteers.
In response to the financial loss, Avon Valley Railway has launched the “Bounce Back” appeal to continue its restoration work. Chairman Roger Eynon emphasized the difficulty of the situation and the need for public support to recover.
