The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has unveiled a new guide titled “Empowering Small and Medium-Sized Businesses: A Resource Guide for Developing a Resilient Supply Chain Risk Management Plan.” This publication aims to assist Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Small and Medium-Sized Businesses (SMBs) in creating and customizing supply chain risk management (SCRM) plans tailored to their specific business needs.
Context and Need for the Guide
Small and medium-sized businesses often grapple with the costs and complexities of supply chain risk management, typically lacking specialized expertise in risk management and SCRM. This can lead to increased vulnerability to disruptions in their supply chains. Recognizing these challenges, the ICT SCRM Task Force, co-chaired by CISA, developed this guide. The task force includes a subgroup dedicated to addressing the specific needs of SMBs.
Mona Harrington, the Assistant Director for the National Risk Management Center at CISA, emphasized the agency’s commitment to supporting SMBs amid the intricate risks present in today’s supply chains. She noted that the development of the guide involved close collaboration with partners and highlights CISA’s dedication to bolstering the role of these businesses in enhancing ICT supply chain resilience.
Strengthening the security and resilience of the ICT supply chain is a primary goal for CISA. The agency collaborates with various government and industry partners to improve the ICT supply chain’s security infrastructure. Recognizing the deep interconnectedness between different sectors and the extensive range of supply chain risks facing both government and industry, the ICT SCRM Task Force embodies CISA’s strategy of collective defense aimed at reinforcing the resilience of the ICT supply chain.
