In a recent operation, law enforcement officials in Bangkok apprehended 39-year-old Thammasak, colloquially known as “Tum the Architect,” on January 2, 2025. He is accused of engaging in extensive fraudulent and extortionate activities since 2022, primarily targeting students across several provinces, including Buri Ram, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chiang Mai, and Bangkok.
Allegations against Tum suggest that he approached his victims under the pretense of being an architect in distress, frequently fabricating narratives involving motorcycle accidents or hospitalizations to establish rapport and gain their trust. Once his victims were persuaded, he allegedly coerced them into providing financial assistance, typically ranging from 200 to 1,000 baht, which he purportedly utilized for online gambling.
The investigation into Tum’s activities was initiated following a recent complaint from a student who reported being extorted. After a duration of five days involving surveillance and strategically planned undercover operations, law enforcement officers apprehended Tum in proximity to Chatuchak Park. He has denied the allegations, contending that he merely solicited financial assistance due to personal economic difficulties and refuting any claims of coercive behavior.
Authorities are urging any additional potential victims to come forward and report similar experiences, underscoring their dedication to addressing public concerns.
