Lancashire, UK — In response to increased demand and the expansion of its range of machinery and service contracts, MattressTek, an award-winning machinery manufacturer, has announced the addition of a new mechanical maintenance engineer to its team. Sam Nicholas, who brings extensive experience in sewing machine installations and servicing from his tenure at bedding giant Silentnight Group, has joined MattressTek to support its growing portfolio. This development follows last year’s hiring of Scott Jarvis, an expert in programming and maintaining industrial sewing machines and automation systems for the mattress and foam industries.
According to Shaun Peel, Technical Director of MattressTek, the engineering team is equipped to handle a range of service needs, including one-off repairs and ongoing service contracts for the mattress industry’s stitching and automation solutions. Peel noted, “The addition of new talent strengthens our ability to meet increasing service demands from our expanding customer base. The pair will focus on supporting our wider range of automation conveyors and production systems, which are integral to our clients’ operations.”
Michael Birtwistle, a Director at MattressTek, highlighted the strategic importance of assembling a dedicated team to manage service requests. “With our core team of engineers occupied with building and testing our growing machinery range, we recognized the need to establish a specialized team to oversee servicing and repairs across the UK and internationally. This allows us to maintain our high standards of quality and support, especially for our customers in large-scale production lines,” Birtwistle stated.
Earlier this year, MattressTek broadened its portfolio by launching the sub-brand AutomateTek, focused on automation solutions beyond the mattress industry. The new division was featured at the Foam Expo in Michigan, where MattressTek secured contracts for multiple installations, including a large-scale project for a solar panel packing operation. The project, which incorporated stacking, de-stacking, and conveying solutions, utilized air vacuum technology and water jet systems to optimize production efficiency.
The company’s expansion into new markets has been marked by several accolades. MattressTek is a contender for the Supply Chain Excellence Awards in both the UK and US categories, organized by Logistics Manager. The company has also received recognition as the Automation Machinery Manufacturer of the Year and for Customer Service Excellence at the British Made Awards. Additionally, MattressTek has been shortlisted for the Digital Transformation category in the Instrumentation Excellence Awards and has been a finalist in the Insider North West International Trade Awards for consecutive years.
As MattressTek continues to grow its global footprint, the company remains committed to supporting local communities in Lancashire through ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, including support for local teams and educational programs.
With its recent team expansion and diversification into automation solutions, MattressTek is poised to further strengthen its position as an industry leader in machinery manufacturing and service support for the mattress and broader automation industries.
