Malaysia’s MM2H Visa Program Undergoes Reforms, Prompting a Cautious Response

The recent announcement of revised terms for Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) visas stirred a range of emotions among foreigners considering relocating to or extending their stay in Malaysia. The changes have been met with a mixture of relief and anticipation, as the alterations aim to offer a more accessible path for expatriates.

The MM2H program, known for its residential and retirement visas, experienced modifications in 2021, leading to heightened eligibility criteria and a significant drop in applications. Additionally, the mandatory stay duration has been lowered to 60 days, potentially fulfilled by dependents, providing more flexibility for applicants.

Ambiguities related to income and asset thresholds, particularly concerning applicants aged 50 and above, have left some individuals seeking further clarity. The absence of specific implementation dates for these changes adds to the cautious sentiment among prospective applicants.
