The focus of Sanctuary’s new robot lies primarily in its upper body capabilities. Videos showcasing the latest model emphasize its human-like movements while performing tasks such as sorting products, highlighting its speed in learning such activities.
While much attention in humanoid robotics typically centers around the physical aspects, such as mobility and appearance, the importance of robotic intelligence is also paramount. While achieving “general intelligence” remains a long-term goal, current systems like Sanctuary’s Phoenix are capable of rapid task learning, reportedly automating new tasks in under 24 hours.
Sanctuary’s co-founder and CEO, Geordie Rose, sees the new generation of robots as a significant step towards artificial general intelligence. The company has already deployed earlier iterations of its robots and recently announced a deal to supply its systems to Magna auto manufacturing facilities.
The latest Phoenix model brings further improvements to the line, including increased uptime, enhanced range of motion, reduced weight, and lower production costs. These advancements position Sanctuary AI as a notable player in the development of humanoid robotics.
