UK Introduces Cyber Security and Resilience Bill to Strengthen National Defences

Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are set to collaborate on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence management and operation systems. This initiative is part of a draft plan aimed at strengthening the partnership between Japan and ASEAN, as per information obtained by Nikkei.

The collaboration is expected to be formalized in a joint vision statement during a summit in Tokyo, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Japan-ASEAN relations. The envisioned plan focuses on three primary areas: fostering interpersonal exchanges, co-creating economy and society, and ensuring peace and stability.

Economically, the plan includes considering a memorandum of cooperation that addresses the digital economy between Japan and the 10-nation ASEAN bloc. Efforts will be made to promote reciprocal direct investment through the ASEAN-Japan Centre and the Japan External Trade Organization. Additionally, the initiative aims to improve the business environment, taking into account the practices prevalent in each country.

Educational cooperation is also a key aspect of the proposal, which includes offering scholarships for foreign students and facilitating exchange programs between universities. The plan also encompasses public-private collaboration in developing systems for early disaster warning and climate information services.

In terms of security, the draft plan proposes enhanced dialogue and cooperation on maritime security, with particular attention to the relationship in the context of China. This includes joint training, technology sharing, defense equipment collaboration, and joint military exercises.
