Iran has issued a strong response to the latest U.S. sanctions targeting vessels, individuals, and entities allegedly involved in its crude oil trade.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei criticized the sanctions, stating that economic and trade interactions are a fundamental right of nations and should not be subject to external interference based on political considerations.
Baghaei argued that the new measures violate international trade laws and principles outlined in the UN Charter, particularly those related to national sovereignty and self-determination. He described the sanctions as unlawful and illegitimate, asserting that they negatively impact the Iranian economy and people.
He also questioned the sincerity of U.S. officials who have expressed willingness to engage in dialogue with Iran, suggesting that the sanctions contradict such statements. According to Baghaei, the new restrictions reflect Washington’s continued pressure on Iran’s economy.
The U.S. government has not yet issued an official response to Iran’s statements. The sanctions come amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington over trade, regional security, and Iran’s nuclear program.
