India is strengthening its iron ore supply strategy as rising steel production creates greater demand for reliable and efficient raw materials.
With steel capacity targeted to reach 300 million metric tons annually by 2030, the country is focusing on improving domestic ore utilisation, expanding beneficiation capacity and strengthening logistics. Imports could also provide additional flexibility for coastal mills, supporting efficient sourcing and material blending.
The broader push highlights India’s efforts to build a more resilient, flexible and competitive steel supply chain, while making better use of domestic resources and improving connectivity between mining regions and major production centres.
