in Automation & Robotics, Industry

From May 6 to May 9, 2024, Automate will be held at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois, marking North America’s largest robotics and automation event. Industrial camera manufacturer IDS will be unveiling new technologies focused on area scan, 3D, and artificial intelligence (AI) vision at booth 2855. These advancements aim to facilitate the development of customized image processing solutions for various applications. Notable highlights include the latest 3D technology from Ensenso and emerging sensor technology such as event-based cameras tailored for automation and robotics uses.

The Ensenso 3D camera product line will be showcased at Automate, addressing the intersection of 3D image processing and robotics. IDS will introduce different models, including the Ensenso C, designed to tackle contemporary challenges within the automation and robotics sectors. Distinguishing itself from other Ensenso models, the Ensenso C offers both 3D and RGB color information, enhancing the depth and richness of captured image data. With a resolution of 5 MP and available baselines of 240 mm or 455 mm, the camera ensures reliable and highly accurate capture, even for large objects.

Additionally, IDS will demonstrate a cobot pick-and-place application featuring the Ensenso N series. Known for its robustness and compactness, the Ensenso N series is engineered to withstand harsh environmental conditions. Its compact design makes it suitable for 3D detection of both moving and stationary objects in various applications, whether stationary or mobile on a robot arm.

Introducing Ensenso PartFinder

IDS will also present Ensenso PartFinder, an add-on function within the EnsensoSDK. This module facilitates object localization by allowing users to load custom CAD geometries and locate them within the point clouds generated by Ensenso 3D cameras. Optimized for the Ensenso camera series, this solution is seamlessly integrated into the EnsensoSDK GUI tools, enhancing user experience and workflow efficiency.

Visitors to booth 2855 can explore these innovations firsthand, along with a demonstration of an event-based camera system. Furthermore, IDS will contribute to the knowledge base sessions by hosting a talk titled “Which 3D Imaging Technique is right for you?”. Admission to the event is free, providing attendees with ample opportunities to engage with cutting-edge technologies and industry insights.
