Yum China, the operator of brands like KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell within China, inaugurated its largest self-built supply chain management center in Jiading on September 24. Covering a 61,000-square-meter area, the facility was completed in just over two years. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including automated logistics, Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), and rooftop photovoltaics, the center aims to create a high-efficiency, environmentally conscious supply chain hub.
“This center not only meets Yum China’s supply chain needs in East China but also supports cold chain integration nationwide, marking the company’s progress in world-class supply chain management,” said CEO Joey Wat. The center includes ambient and cold chain storage, office areas, and additional support facilities. Featuring a 12-layer ASRS-enabled cold storage warehouse with over 9,000 pallet slots in a 2,500-square-meter area, the facility improves space utilization by over 20% and operational efficiency with automated identification, storage, and retrieval.
By year’s end, the facility will also incorporate a high-density four-way shuttle storage system, allowing employees to focus on more strategic roles. Additionally, the rooftop photovoltaic system, with a capacity of 1.5 megawatts, is expected to generate over 1.5 million kilowatt-hours annually, supporting the energy-intensive cold storage requirements.
Yum China has developed a comprehensive supply chain system since establishing operations in China 37 years ago. As of August 2024, the company manages 33 logistics hubs nationwide, serving over 1,700 cities and towns.
