As artificial intelligence (AI) keeps evolving, experts warn that threats related to AI will become a major issue in 2024. Samsung SDS, a top cybersecurity company, emphasizes that businesses need to get ready for added risks linked to generative AI technologies. In their yearly report on cybersecurity threats, the company noted that attacks using AI are on the rise, with hackers employing tools like WormGPT and FraudGPT to create harmful software.
From examining cybersecurity incidents in 2023, Samsung SDS highlighted several main risks for companies to be mindful of, including misuse of AI, cloud security weaknesses, data breaches, ransomware, and threats to network security. The growing availability of AI-driven tools for cybercriminals is especially concerning, as these tools can effectively produce malware and challenge traditional security systems.
The report also emphasized the necessity for strong security measures, such as using AI to analyze malware and automate threat detection. As cloud computing becomes more common, especially in mixed setups, companies are facing greater vulnerabilities due to complicated security setups. Data breaches, especially those involving private information, have become more frequent, with stolen data often sold on the dark web, causing further issues.
To tackle these threats, Samsung SDS recommends that businesses implement stricter data management practices, create thorough employee compliance rules, and adopt zero-trust security measures. Ransomware, which locks up a company’s data and demands payment for access, continues to be a serious problem. Companies are encouraged to improve endpoint security and fix vulnerabilities to lessen the impact of such attacks.
Samsung SDS also launched its FabriX solution, which allows the safe use of generative AI in private settings while including AI filtering to prevent sensitive information leaks. This approach highlights the need for businesses to balance the use of new AI technologies with strong security measures to protect against emerging risks.
