Singapore, May 15, 2024 – The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) concluded a public consultation on the Cybersecurity (Amendment) Bill, which ran from December 15, 2023, to January 15, 2024. This Bill aims to update the existing Cybersecurity Act to address emerging cyber threats and safeguard Singapore’s cyberspace.
The public consultation revealed general support for extending regulatory oversight to non-critical systems that hold sensitive information or play key roles in Singapore’s economy. However, concerns were raised about the potential increase in business costs for newly regulated entities. The CSA has committed to ongoing consultations with industry stakeholders to address these issues.
Following the public consultation, the Bill was introduced in Parliament, with its First Reading on April 3, 2024, and the Second Reading scheduled for May 7, 2024. The CSA continues to engage with stakeholders to ensure the Bill aligns with technological advancements and industry practices.
