Industrial automation and technology company has outlined its latest sustainability and supply chain initiatives in its 2025 Sustainability Report, highlighting progress in emissions reduction, renewable energy sourcing, water conservation, and responsible procurement practices.
The company, which provides industrial automation, software, and enterprise solutions across sectors including chemicals, energy, and life sciences, said its long-term sustainability strategy is focused on improving operational efficiency while supporting environmental stewardship across its global value chain.
According to the report, Emerson’s direct operational emissions account for approximately 2% of its total value chain greenhouse gas emissions, while the remaining 98% comes from indirect activities throughout its supply network and operations.
As part of its climate targets, Emerson aims to achieve net-zero operations through a 90% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030, based on a 2021 baseline. The company also plans to source 100% renewable electricity for global operations by 2030 through grid-based renewable energy and on-site generation projects.
In 2025, Emerson reported a 49% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to its baseline levels. The company also achieved a 27% reduction in energy intensity while increasing purchased renewable electricity usage to 56% across operations.
President and CEO said the company continues to strengthen its position as a global automation provider while integrating sustainability into its operations and technology development.
Emerson also reported progress in water management and environmental compliance initiatives. The company previously established a target to reduce water consumption at manufacturing facilities by 10% by 2032. According to the report, that goal was exceeded ahead of schedule with a 12% reduction in water usage compared to 2022 levels.
To support future efficiency improvements, Emerson said it has incorporated water management measures into its Sustainable Building Standards for new construction projects. The company also maintains environmental compliance programs focused on air emissions, wastewater management, waste disposal, pollution prevention, and operational risk reduction.
Across its supply chain operations, Emerson manages sourcing activities involving plastics, electronics, steel, and machined parts from more than 13,000 direct materials suppliers worldwide.
The company said its responsible sourcing strategy includes supplier emissions tracking, emissions-reduction planning, and human rights and labor due diligence practices. Emerson also reported that more than 3,300 employees have received training related to its Supplier Code of Conduct and sustainability programs.
Executives said the company is continuing efforts to strengthen supplier collaboration, improve transparency, and support long-term supply chain resilience as part of its broader sustainability strategy.
