Egypt Advances Logistics Efficiency to Support Trade

in Logistics & Transportation

Egypt is strengthening its logistics ecosystem as part of efforts to improve supply chain efficiency, support production, and expand the competitiveness of its exports in regional and international markets.

The Investment and Foreign Trade Ministry is working with logistics sector stakeholders across transportation, shipping, storage, warehousing, unloading, insurance and related services to improve the movement of goods and production inputs.

A key focus is reducing the time and cost involved in moving goods through Egypt’s trade network. Average customs clearance time has fallen from around 16 days in June 2024 to approximately 5.8 days, with a target of reaching two working days.

Digital processes are supporting this progress through pre clearance systems, electronic documents, electronic bills of lading, certificates of origin, risk management and stronger connectivity among relevant authorities.

Technology is also being explored to make better use of existing logistics capacity. Digital platforms can connect service providers with available shipments, improve transport fleet and warehouse utilization, reduce empty journeys and give smaller logistics businesses greater access to customers and financing.

The strategy also positions logistics services as an area of economic growth in their own right. Transit, transshipment, shipping, storage and re export activities can generate additional value by leveraging Egypt’s geographic position and infrastructure.

Closer cooperation between government agencies and private sector participants is expected to help identify practical opportunities across infrastructure, regulations, trade procedures, technology, data and logistics capacity. These efforts can contribute to faster trade flows, stronger domestic supply chains and greater access to international markets.
