Several major hospitals in London have been forced to cancel procedures and appointments after falling victim to a cyber attack.

The attack, which targeted the computer systems of Barts Health NHS Trust, has impacted services at several hospitals, including The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, Whipps Cross, and Newham.

As a result of the attack, hospital staff have been unable to access crucial systems, including those used for patient records and appointment scheduling.

In response to the incident, hospital authorities have initiated their cybersecurity protocols and are working closely with cybersecurity experts to assess the extent of the damage and restore normal operations as soon as possible.

Patients with scheduled appointments or procedures are advised to contact the hospitals directly for further information and guidance.

The nature and source of the cyber attack have not yet been disclosed, but investigations are underway to determine the cause and identify those responsible.

The affected hospitals are urging patients to only visit emergency departments for urgent medical needs while they work to resolve the issue and resume regular services.

This cyber attack highlights the growing threat posed by cybercriminals to essential services, including healthcare, and underscores the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect against such incidents in the future.
