Dubai International Airport is projected to surpass 90 million passengers by the end of 2024, according to Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group. The forecast was shared during a media briefing at the 31st Arabian Travel Market, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
In light of this expected increase in passenger traffic, which follows nearly 87 million passengers recorded last year, Sheikh Ahmed emphasized the need for expanded airport facilities to accommodate the growing number of air travelers. He suggested that the construction of Al Maktoum International Airport is set to support this demand, aiming to bolster Dubai’s aviation infrastructure for the forthcoming four decades.
Additionally, Sheikh Ahmed highlighted the role of the aviation sector in supporting the Dubai Economic Agenda “D33”, which outlines 100 transformative projects aimed at doubling the city’s economy over the next ten years and enhancing its status among the top three global cities. The D33 agenda focuses on fostering growth across various sectors, with a particular emphasis on aviation, travel, and tourism, sectors that have demonstrated significant resilience and growth, further solidifying Dubai’s position as a prominent global hub for trade, business, and tourism.
