Dubai Industrial City, in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), has reinforced its dedication to sustainability initiatives and advanced agricultural practices, highlighting the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving national goals.
As part of the ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Programme and ‘Our Green Emirates’ initiative, Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at MOCCAE, joined a tree-planting activity within Dubai Industrial City’s worker accommodation community. The event aligns with ongoing efforts to promote a culture of environmental sustainability and support the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy 2051 and the Dubai Food Security Strategy.
Al Harmoudi emphasized the significance of integrating innovation and technology to advance environmental and food security goals. She pointed to the district’s state-of-the-art facilities, such as Sokovo’s vertical farm, as examples of modern solutions driving sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing local food production.
The advanced vertical farm by Sokovo Nature Farms, spanning over 100,000 square feet, demonstrates cutting-edge hydroponic systems that optimize resources, reduce water usage, and increase the production of leafy greens and microgreens. These efforts contribute to the UAE’s reliable food supply for hypermarkets, hotels, and restaurants nationwide.
Saud Abu Alshawareb, Executive Vice President of Industrial at TECOM Group, reiterated the importance of fostering innovation and collaboration between manufacturing and the food and beverage sector. He noted that Dubai Industrial City’s partnership with MOCCAE is pivotal in achieving the UAE’s vision for sustainable development and promoting advanced manufacturing practices.
This strategic partnership, formalized during the launch of Dubai Industrial City’s Make Brilliance global awareness campaign in May 2023, underscores the shared commitment to sustainability and industrial innovation.
