ILOILO CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region VI recently organized a training session focusing on lean management and productivity to assist Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operating within the Wearables and Homestyle Industry Cluster (WHIC) in Western Visayas.
Conducted in partnership with the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board VI (RTWPB VI), a unit under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the training occurred on April 30, 2024, at the DTI Regional Office VI.
The session aimed to address the identified need for increased productivity, as outlined in the WHIC Roadmap during its localization process. Twenty-three MSMEs from various provinces in the region participated.
Facilitated by experts from RTWPB VI, the training covered the basics of Lean Management and Productivity. Participants were introduced to methods for identifying and eliminating inefficiencies in their operations, as well as principles for maximizing resource utilization.
By adopting lean management techniques, MSMEs can enhance efficiency, cut unnecessary costs, and optimize resource allocation, ultimately improving productivity and competitiveness. Rachel Nufable, Officer-in-Charge Regional Director of DTI VI, highlighted the importance of these tools for small businesses, emphasizing DTI’s support in enabling their competitiveness locally and globally.
The WHIC sector, which includes wearables (apparel, fashion accessories, footwear) and homestyle (housewares, home decors, furniture, and furnishings), significantly contributes to economic growth in Western Visayas. Such initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to assisting businesses in crucial sectors for national economic development.
Collaboration with government agencies is essential for supporting MSMEs. By combining resources, expertise, and networks, these partnerships can offer comprehensive assistance to MSMEs, enabling them to thrive in dynamic industries like wearables and homestyle and contribute to regional economic prosperity.
