The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) has launched the SU.RE website and the SU.RE Sustainable Supply Chain Directory, aimed at advancing sustainability in India’s fashion industry. These initiatives provide resources to help apparel brands transition to eco-friendly practices while connecting them with verified sustainable suppliers. The directory features over 600 vendors specializing in fabric manufacturing, recycling, sustainable packaging, and certification.
The SU.RE – Sustainable Resolution website serves as an educational and networking hub, offering industry insights, case studies, and sustainability-related news. The Open Source Supply Chain Directory enables brands to source responsibly by connecting them with sustainable suppliers in categories such as textiles, trims, packaging, and manufacturing. Additionally, the platform supports collaboration through dedicated sustainability initiatives and industry events.
Developed in collaboration with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) and the Global Alliance for Textile Sustainability (GATS), the SU.RE Sustainable Supply Chain Directory facilitates innovation and knowledge-sharing in eco-conscious sourcing. As sustainability gains momentum, India’s sustainable fashion market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 45%, expanding from INR 2,700 Cr in FY24 to INR 25,000 Cr in FY30.
Sustainability is becoming essential for the fashion industry, which faces environmental and ethical challenges. For example, frequent laundering of clothes significantly impacts water and energy consumption, while less than 50% of textile waste is reused or recycled. Additionally, concerns over transparency and labor standards highlight the need for responsible sourcing and ethical manufacturing.
The SU.RE (Sustainable Resolution) initiative, launched by CMAI in partnership with Reliance Brands Limited (RBL) and supported by the United Nations in India, has been driving industry-wide sustainability efforts since 2019. The initiative follows a five-point manifesto focused on environmental awareness, sustainable sourcing, responsible decision-making, transparent communication, and long-term sustainability commitments aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The launch of the SU.RE website and Sustainable Supply Chain Directory at Bharat Tex 2025 marks a significant milestone in India’s efforts to create a more sustainable and globally competitive apparel industry.
