China’s e-commerce logistics sector gained momentum in August, with its key logistics index rising to 111.5 points, up 0.3 point from July. Eight of nine sub-indices improved, signaling stronger performance across the logistics network.
The improvement was supported by better inventory turnover, faster logistics operations, higher fulfillment rates, and improved customer satisfaction. At the same time, seasonal demand for autumn apparel, beauty products, and other consumer goods helped maintain online purchasing activity.
Rural e-commerce logistics also continued to expand, with both overall e-commerce logistics volume and rural logistics volume growing by more than 20 percent year on year. This highlights the increasing contribution of both urban and rural markets to China’s domestic distribution network.
Consumer preferences are also shifting toward AI-enabled and smart products, creating new opportunities for logistics providers to support higher-value electronics and technology-driven demand.
The continued growth of e-commerce logistics points to stronger domestic consumption and a more dynamic distribution network. As digital commerce expands across both cities and rural areas, China’s logistics infrastructure is becoming increasingly important in supporting resilient domestic supply chains.
