China’s Ministry of Commerce expressed strong opposition on Monday to the United States’ new semiconductor export control measures, which it criticized as disruptive to global trade. The ministry accused the US of using national security as a pretext for unilateral sanctions that could destabilize international markets.
In a statement, a ministry spokesperson stated that the US had “abused export control measures” and expanded the scope of national security in a manner that threatens the stability of global supply chains. The spokesperson further claimed that these actions had obstructed normal international trade relations and undermined global market rules and the international economic order.
The remarks followed the US’s announcement of additional semiconductor export restrictions against China. These new measures impose stricter controls on semiconductor manufacturing equipment and chips, while also adding 136 Chinese entities to Washington’s export control list. The US actions extend its jurisdiction to interfere with trade between China and third-party countries, which China described as “economic coercion” and “non-market behavior.”
