in Economic Indicators

Canada’s economy recorded stronger growth in the second quarter of 2026, supported by rising exports, household spending, and business investment.

Gross domestic product expanded at an annualized rate of 3.3%, marking the fastest quarterly pace since 2023. Exports were a major contributor, with outbound shipments increasing 3.6%, the strongest growth in more than three years.

Domestic demand also strengthened, rising 1% during the quarter. Household consumption increased 0.8%, while business investment grew 2.3%, supported by investment in residential and non-residential structures, machinery, and equipment.

The results highlight the continued importance of trade and supply networks to Canada’s economic performance. Growing export activity can support production, transportation, sourcing, and distribution across domestic and international markets.

Stronger business investment is also contributing to productive capacity, helping businesses expand equipment, infrastructure, and operational capabilities. Together with increased consumer activity, these developments are supporting broader economic momentum.

Canada’s second-quarter performance demonstrates how stronger exports, domestic demand, and investment can work together to reinforce economic activity and support the country’s participation in global supply networks.
