Australia and Singapore have strengthened regional supply chain resilience with a new Protocol on Economic Resilience and Essential Supplies under the Singapore-Australia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA). The agreement reinforces cooperation on energy security, critical supply chains, and uninterrupted trade flows, helping both countries better respond to future global disruptions.
The protocol delivers on a commitment made by the leaders of Australia and Singapore to safeguard essential supplies and maintain the movement of goods during periods of economic or geopolitical uncertainty. As Singapore remains Australia’s largest fuel supplier, the agreement supports greater energy security while enhancing the stability of regional logistics networks.
A key feature of the pact is the establishment of the Australia-Singapore Economic Resilience Dialogue, providing a formal platform for both countries to coordinate on supply chain resilience, essential goods, and broader economic challenges. The initiative is expected to strengthen collaboration between governments while promoting more agile and reliable cross-border trade.
Building on more than two decades of free trade cooperation, the updated agreement reflects the growing importance of resilient supply chains in supporting economic growth, regional connectivity, and long-term trade stability across the Indo-Pacific.
