Apparel Supply Chain Advances Traceability and Circularity

A leading Canadian apparel manufacturer is strengthening supply chain traceability, responsible sourcing and circular production practices as part of its latest sustainability strategy.

The company reported a 50% reduction in market-based Scope 1 and 2 emissions from its 2019 baseline, alongside the diversion of all post-consumer global warranty waste from landfill during FY26.

Supply chain transparency remains a central focus. During the year, the company worked with suppliers to map upstream networks beyond Tier 2, providing greater visibility into material origins and strengthening data collection across its supply chain.

The initiative also supports responsible sourcing and improved supply chain reporting. Certified materials accounted for 91% of materials used in Canadian manufacturing, while all down was certified under the Responsible Down Standard. The company also reported that 96% of leather purchased for offshore products was certified by the Leather Working Group.

Supplier collaboration is extending to transportation and emissions data. Logistics providers now provide 65% primary-data coverage for transportation-related Scope 3 emissions, helping improve visibility into the environmental impact of global logistics operations.

Circularity is another area of supply chain development. Through resale, repair, reuse and recycling programs, more products are being kept in circulation for longer. More than 19,000 garments were traded through its resale platform during FY26, while more than 90,000 pounds of end-of-life products have been diverted from landfill since 2020 through reverse logistics initiatives.

Manufacturing improvements are also supporting resource efficiency. Life-cycle assessments were completed for every product manufactured during FY26, covering impacts from raw material sourcing through production and global distribution.

The company has invested more than C$7 million to electrify heating systems at Canadian manufacturing facilities. At one site, recovering heat generated by production equipment has helped reduce natural gas use and cut Scope 1 emissions by 60%.

These developments highlight how supply chain sustainability is increasingly connected to traceability, supplier engagement, responsible materials, logistics data, circularity and manufacturing efficiency. Together, these measures can provide businesses with greater visibility while supporting more sustainable and resilient supply networks.
