Allegations Surrounding Cosette’s Sale of Luxury Goods Under Scrutiny

The luxury outlet store, Cosette, is currently under investigation following claims that it has been selling counterfeit designer products. Cosette operates by offering off-season and vintage couture items from renowned European Luxury Designer Brands in its Sydney boutique and online store, all at discounted rates. With nationwide free delivery and notably reduced prices, the store has raised some suspicions.

In a joint investigative effort by The Sydney Morning Herald and A Current Affair, concerns have been raised regarding the potential sale of fake couture items by the retailer. Several shoppers have stepped forward, alleging that the company utilized third-party authenticators to verify the authenticity of their high-priced products.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported a case where a customer purchased a $4,000 Saint Laurent Bag from Cosette for $2,400. After receiving an item with discrepancies in serial numbers and authenticity certificate photos, the customer sought an independent evaluation, confirming the bag’s inauthenticity.

Cosette has responded to the accusations with a statement asserting the authenticity of their goods. They maintain that their products are genuine and independently authenticated by third-party experts. In cases of customer concerns about authenticity, Cosette encourages customers to reach out. The company offers to facilitate returns and reauthentication, with a full refund guaranteed if any product is deemed non-genuine after this process.

A Current Affair has reported that New South Wales Fair Trading officers have taken action following 25 complaints about Cosette. A spokesperson from NSW Fair Trading confirmed that inspectors had visited a Cosette warehouse in Sydney but refrained from making further comments as investigations are ongoing. Dissatisfied customers have been advised to lodge complaints through the NSW Fair Trading website and contact their payment platform or credit card provider for potential chargebacks related to their purchases.
