Africa is becoming increasingly important to global supply chains as demand for cobalt, copper, lithium, graphite, and other critical minerals accelerates with the energy transition.
The continent is projected to supply around 60% of global lithium and 76% of mined cobalt by 2030, strengthening its influence over the materials needed for batteries, renewable energy, and advanced technologies.
Major infrastructure projects such as the Lobito Corridor and regional rail networks are also improving mineral transportation and connecting resource-rich areas with international markets.
At the same time, growing competition among global economies, tighter export policies, and efforts by African countries to develop local processing are reshaping how critical minerals move through global supply chains.
Africa’s expanding mineral production and infrastructure investment could create new opportunities for regional industrialization, trade diversification, and more resilient global supply chains.
