AAL Shipping has recently joined the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), signaling its commitment to combating corruption and promoting ethical practices within the maritime industry. The MACN is an influential global initiative, established in 2011, that strives to eliminate corruption and foster fair trade practices across international jurisdictions. With membership now exceeding 190 companies, the network serves as a prime example of the industry’s collective effort to address corruption and encourage a culture of transparency and integrity. Felix Schoeller, a director at AAL and a member of its Sustainability Committee, underscored the alignment of this new partnership with AAL’s core values of good governance and ethical conduct. Schoeller stressed that adherence to the highest Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards is a cornerstone of AAL’s operational philosophy. By joining MACN, AAL aims to protect the interests of its customers and supply chain partners globally, ensuring that they operate in a business environment free from corruption.

Schoeller further noted that AAL is eager to contribute actively to MACN’s efforts. The organization is not only proactive in enhancing anti-corruption standards among its members but also effective in utilizing its collective influence to advocate for legislative and policy changes that support fair trade principles. This dual approach helps to strengthen the maritime industry’s resolve against corrupt practices while promoting a level playing field for all stakeholders. Cecilia Muller Torbrand, CEO of the MACN, welcomed AAL Shipping to the network, highlighting the value of AAL’s engagement and the positive impact it is expected to have on the network’s ongoing initiatives. Torbrand’s comments reflect the MACN’s open and collaborative ethos, which relies on the active participation of its members to drive change and achieve its ambitious goals.

Beyond its commitment to combating corruption, AAL Shipping has consistently demonstrated leadership in environmental and ethical standards within the maritime sector. The company has taken significant steps to ensure compliance with international sanctions and has been proactive in harmonizing ethical business conduct throughout its extensive operational network. A notable achievement in this area is AAL’s pioneering efforts to prepare for the European Union Emission Trading Scheme (EUETS), which will take effect on January 1, 2024. AAL stands out as the first multipurpose project heavy lift carrier to implement measures ahead of this regulatory change, showcasing its dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship. AAL Shipping’s membership in the MACN is a testament to the company’s ongoing efforts to elevate standards of governance, sustainability, and ethical conduct within the maritime industry. By joining forces with MACN, AAL not only reinforces its own commitment to these principles but also contributes to the collective action needed to ensure a more transparent, fair, and corruption-free maritime sector.
