The Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct (AARP), the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, has officially opened in Neerabup, just 30 minutes from Perth’s central business district. Developed with a $28 million investment from the Western Australian Government, the facility is designed to be a global hub for robotics and automation innovation.
The AARP will provide a space for companies to test and develop robotics and automation technologies without disrupting their regular operations. It is expected to play a significant role in enhancing efficiency and safety across key industries, particularly mining and resources, through the integration of automated solutions.
Western Australian Premier Roger Cook emphasized that the new precinct is a part of the government’s broader strategy to foster local job creation and diversify the state’s economy. He highlighted that the state is focused on positioning itself as a leader in the development of robotic and automation solutions.
The 51-hectare site includes six test beds intended to simulate real-world conditions for autonomous solutions, remote operations, and robotics. These facilities will also advance the development of zero-emission technologies. The AARP is equipped with a co-working space, offices, labs, maker spaces, warehousing, and event spaces for demonstrations and networking.
Lands Minister John Carey stated that the AARP is well-positioned to host development teams from around the world, offering them the necessary resources to collaborate in real time. He also noted the strategic location of the facility, which is close to industrial hubs, ensuring that it can support commercial growth and foster international collaboration.
The government forecasts that the precinct will contribute between $450 million and $600 million to Western Australia’s economy by 2030.
The facility will be operated by CORE Innovation Hub, which also manages other business hubs in the region, particularly for industries like mining and energy. Development WA, the state’s land development agency, was responsible for the development and management of the AARP. The opening of the Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct marks a significant step towards advancing robotics and automation technologies in Western Australia, with the potential to drive innovation and growth in multiple sectors.
