Scan Global Logistics (SGL) is set to bolster its presence in Germany, Europe’s largest logistics market, through the acquisition of ETS Transport & Logistics GmbH (ETS), a prominent ocean freight forwarder ranking among the Top 50 in the field. This strategic partnership will significantly enhance SGL’s capabilities in Germany, particularly within the ocean freight sector, and is expected to have a positive impact on its standing within the global logistics landscape.

ETS, established in 2002 with its headquarters in Bremen, has expanded its operations with a branch in Hamburg and two fulfillment warehouses in Gudensberg and Neu Wulmstorf. This expansion further solidifies SGL’s geographical footprint in Northern Germany while complementing its current resources.

Allan Melgaard, SGL’s representative, highlights the synergy between the two companies and outlines the rationale behind expanding in one of SGL’s key markets:

“ETS has cultivated a robust and sustainable business model grounded in close customer relationships, trust, and dependable services, reflecting our own business ethos. Moreover, ETS enhances our capabilities and broadens our portfolio and service offerings to benefit our customers.”

Thomas Frese and Sven E. Schoon, the owners of ETS, share this sentiment:

“SGL is a robust and fitting partner. Our collaboration enables us to further develop and enhance our operations, leverage the extensive industry knowledge and expertise of our staff, and offer our customers improved global services while maintaining the personalized approach they are accustomed to. We are optimistic about the future.”

Enhanced Customer Offerings SGL is renowned for its customer-centric approach and commitment to serving specific industry segments and individual customers with tailor-made end-to-end logistics and freight forwarding solutions. The addition of ETS brings additional strengths to SGL’s portfolio, particularly in the ocean freight segment, and is expected to boost its market share in Germany. ETS customers will gain access to SGL’s global network and a wider range of services while retaining their existing local contacts.

“The acquisition will bolster our presence in the German market, allowing us to attract the talent needed to continue our global vision,” states Allan Melgaard. He adds, “We eagerly anticipate the benefits our customers will derive from the synergy of our capabilities, networks, and solutions.”

The transaction is contingent on receiving antitrust approval in Germany and will be concluded shortly following the authorities’ clearance.

Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
