Exhibitions Showcase Australia’s Manufacturing Strength

The International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), managed by ASM Global, has announced that 131,800 people are expected to attend 16 exhibitions at the venue in the last quarter of FY2023/24. These trade shows are anticipated to promote growth in industries such as manufacturing, construction, food services, and clean energy. This development aligns with the Australian federal government’s renewed focus on advancing manufacturing and clean energy projects through the ‘Future Made in Australia Act,’ a taxpayer-funded incentive scheme aimed at enhancing Australia’s competitive advantage. Geoff Donaghy, CEO of ICC Sydney and group director – convention centres, ASM Global (APAC), highlighted the importance of exhibitions in catalyzing investment, fostering networking, and providing a platform for innovation.

He noted that exhibitions play a significant role in boosting business, bringing economic and social benefits to the local economy, and positively impacting suppliers. Donaghy stated, “Opportunities are created for businesses in key growing markets such as construction, manufacturing, or renewable energy, and the economic impact of these shows and the audiences they attract are felt across the country.” In April, ICC Sydney hosted the three-day Australian Manufacturing Week expo, which attracted 6,000 attendees, 270 exhibitors, and featured 15 speaker presentations. The event was sponsored by the New South Wales (NSW) Government. Kim Banks, head of events at Australian Manufacturing Technology Institute Limited (AMTIL), emphasized the significance of the expo in celebrating Australia’s manufacturing industry and showcasing the latest machinery and technological advancements.

The Sydney Build Expo, organized by Oliver Kinross, expanded its 2024 footprint to six exhibition halls, engaging 50,000 attendees with over 600 exhibitors and 500 speakers. The event covered topics such as sustainability, diversity, women in construction, and mental health. Sydney Build Expo managing director APAC, James McKenzie, announced plans to return in May 2025, utilizing the entire ICC Sydney Exhibition Centre. ARBS 2024, scheduled for 28-30 May at ICC Sydney, will occupy four halls and is expected to attract over 9,000 visitors and feature 340 local and international exhibitors. This event focuses on heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) and building services. ARBS Exhibitions CEO Amanda Searle highlighted the exhibition’s role in promoting sustainable HVAC&R and building technologies, contributing to the ‘Future Made in Australia’ vision.

Additionally, three co-located home construction shows—the ArchiBuild Expo, Design Show, and Kitchen + Bath Show—will take place at ICC Sydney from 13-15 June, expected to draw 5,000 visitors collectively. Upcoming food and beverage exhibitions include Food Service Australia (19-21 May), Naturally Good (3-4 June), and Good Food & Wine (21-23 June), all projected to surpass last year’s attendance numbers. Retail and commerce exhibitions such as the Global Sourcing Expo Sydney (12-14 June) and the Craft & Quilt Fair (3-6 July) are also scheduled.
