AeroGrid, a UK-based drone charging start-up, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with West Northamptonshire Council to explore potential sites within the council’s property portfolio for the installation of drone charging infrastructure.
The council’s location is strategically chosen due to its proximity to both existing and planned fulfilment and logistics centres, which are expected to play a significant role in the future of drone delivery services. Notably, the proposed Amazon fulfilment centre at SEGRO Logistics Park in the region is expected to be a key factor in identifying potential drone charging sites.
Under the agreement, the council is open to considering the use of its properties and land for the placement and operation of drone charging stations. Potential locations include rooftops of council-owned buildings as well as open spaces and fields.
The presence of AeroGrid in the area is expected to create job opportunities, including roles in maintenance, operations, and site management, while also contributing to the region’s goals of embracing innovative and sustainable technologies. This initiative aligns with West Northamptonshire’s focus on promoting sustainable growth and positioning itself as a leader in technological advancements.
