in Artificial Intelligence in Trade

The 2025 Manifest Supply Chain and Logistics Technology Conference, held from February 9-12, brought attention to key issues in logistics, with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and developments in global trade. The conference attracted an estimated 6,000 attendees, including industry executives, technology developers, startups, and investors.

During the event, Patrick Kelleher, CEO of DHL Supply Chain North America, addressed the challenges currently faced by the logistics industry, including trade policies, tariffs, digitalisation, e-commerce expansion, sustainability, and workforce recruitment. Kelleher acknowledged the uncertainties in international trade, particularly with potential new tariffs under the second Trump administration. However, he expressed optimism about the continued growth of global trade, stating that the industry must adapt to these challenges and focus on delivering optimal solutions for customers.

Kelleher also noted the increasing complexity of supply chains and the greater need for visibility as supply chains lengthen. He emphasized the growing importance of cybersecurity within the transportation sector, predicting that it would soon become a standard requirement for companies to engage in global trade.

A central topic at the conference was artificial intelligence. Kelleher remarked that AI will significantly change the logistics landscape, highlighting that companies adopting AI technologies would gain a competitive edge. Georgy Melkonyan, CEO of Arnata, showcased AI-driven virtual agents capable of managing logistics tasks such as carrier sales, scheduling, compliance, and customer support. Melkonyan stressed that adopting AI is crucial for the survival of logistics companies in the evolving industry.

In addition to AI, autonomous driving technology was also featured prominently at the conference. Forterra presented its AutoDrive system, currently in the pilot phase, which enables automated coupling of trailers to terminal tractors, paving the way for fully autonomous yard operations. Meanwhile, Torc Robotics demonstrated its autonomous Freightliner Cascadia, with plans for commercial deployment of self-driving heavy-duty trucks on highways by 2027.

The exhibition floor hosted around 400 exhibitors, showcasing innovations in logistics software, robotics, and autonomous vehicle technology. The conference highlighted the rapid transformation occurring within the logistics industry, driven by technological advancements such as AI, automation, and cybersecurity.

As companies within the logistics sector continue to adapt to digitalisation and global trade shifts, those embracing new technologies are poised to lead the future of supply chain management.
