A major strategic shift in ocean freight logistics has taken place with P&O Maritime Logistics (POML) acquiring a controlling 51 % stake in NovaAlgoma Cement Carriers (NACC), a specialist transporter of dry-bulk commodities — particularly cement — using pneumatic carrier vessels. The new joint entity is now headquartered in Dubai following completion of the transaction.
Under the deal, POML — a wholly owned subsidiary of a global ports and logistics group — brings global scale and network reach to NACC’s operations, which span North America, Europe, the Mediterranean, South Asia and the Caribbean. The remaining 49 % minority interest remains with Nova Marine Holding (Switzerland) and Algoma Central Corporation (Canada).
The acquisition does not include NACC’s existing joint venture interests in parts of Northern Europe, Indonesia and Greece, which will continue independently.
Founded in 2016, NACC has grown as a leader in transporting cement and other dry-bulk materials on behalf of industrial customers, supporting major infrastructure and construction supply chains around the world. By combining NACC’s specialised vessel capabilities with POML’s global logistics footprint, the partnership aims to broaden service coverage and strengthen breakbulk and dry-bulk logistics offerings.
Logistics industry analysts say the move reflects a broader trend of maritime logistics diversification as global supply chains — especially infrastructure-linked cargo flows — seek resilient, integrated transport solutions that span ocean freight and inland distribution.
