Belgium Expands Cold Chain Logistics Capacity at Antwerp Port

in Warehousing & Distribution

A major new temperature-controlled logistics hub planned at the Port of Antwerp is set to strengthen Europe’s supply chain infrastructure for food, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and technology products.

The project will involve an initial investment of €48 million, with total investment expected to reach approximately €100 million over the long term. The facility will occupy an 83,000-square-metre site and is expected to begin construction in 2027, subject to permitting.

More than 55,000 square metres of warehouse and office space will provide multi-temperature storage and specialized cargo handling. Around half of the warehouse capacity is planned for perishables, including fresh produce, while the remaining space will serve temperature-sensitive and specialized goods across several industries.

The hub will also provide cargo consolidation and deconsolidation services, helping businesses coordinate inventory and distribution more efficiently. Its location alongside a major ocean terminal will connect warehousing directly with road, rail, and inland waterway networks, supporting wider European distribution.

The development highlights the growing importance of integrated cold chain infrastructure within modern supply chains. By bringing port operations, temperature-controlled storage, cargo handling, and inland transportation together, the facility is expected to support faster and more coordinated movement of time-sensitive goods across Europe.
