Palma Mukuyuni Tree Nursery to Represent Kenyan Climate-Smart Agriculture at Global Leadership Forum in London

LONDON, United Kingdom — Mary Wanjiku Mwanza, Deputy Managing Director of Palma Mukuyuni Tree Nursery, will represent the Kenyan agricultural enterprise at the International Trade Council Global Convocation & Leadership Forum. The three-day programme, taking place across various venues in London from 26 to 28 November 2026, serves as a high-level summit for senior business leaders and policymakers to address critical issues in international trade, market access, and supply chain stability.

Based in Makueni County, Palma Mukuyuni Tree Nursery has transformed from a local seedling provider into a significant regional hub for climate-resilient horticulture. The enterprise specialises in the propagation of diverse fruit and timber species, ranging from Hass avocados and mangoes to indigenous shade trees. By successfully operating in a region defined by water scarcity and nutrient-poor soils, the nursery has developed robust agricultural methodologies that are increasingly relevant to global supply chains facing environmental pressures.

The participation of Palma Mukuyuni Tree Nursery at the London forum highlights the vital role of grassroots agribusinesses in the modern international trade landscape. As global markets increasingly prioritise transparent and sustainable sourcing, the nursery’s experience in restoring degraded landscapes and improving regional food security offers a practical model for integrating small-scale producers into larger trade frameworks. Mwanza’s attendance aims to connect local climate adaptation efforts in East Africa with the strategic requirements of international trade partners and investment agencies.

During the three-day programme, the company intends to explore new avenues for knowledge exchange and potential international collaborations. Having already established partnerships with global research bodies such as the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research and CIFOR-ICRAF, the nursery seeks to broaden its network among trade officials and industry associations. The objective is to demonstrate how climate-resilient seedling production serves as a foundational element for the export of high-value horticultural products, ensuring that the primary tier of the agricultural supply chain is capable of withstanding climate volatility.

Our work in Makueni County is focused on establishing a durable foundation for sustainable rural economies through climate-smart farming. By participating in the Global Convocation & Leadership Forum, we intend to demonstrate that small-scale agricultural enterprises are essential stakeholders in the conversation regarding global supply chain resilience. The transition from corporate roles in Nairobi to the practicalities of farming in a water-scarce environment has provided us with a unique perspective on the necessity of climate adaptation.

We are focused on identifying partners who recognise that the long-term security of agricultural trade depends on the health and diversity of the primary production level. Sharing our model of community training and resilient horticulture with an international audience allows us to advocate for trade policies that support the growth of sustainable agribusinesses across East Africa and beyond.

Beyond its commercial operations, the nursery serves as a critical educational resource for local farmer groups and agricultural cooperatives. This commitment to horticultural education and seedling health ensures that the resources distributed have the best possible chance of survival, thereby securing the future productivity of the region. Mwanza’s presence in London will emphasise the necessity of such training hubs in building the capacity required for emerging markets to participate effectively and reliably in international commerce.
