Vietnam’s aviation and logistics infrastructure received a significant boost as authorities commenced construction of a new air cargo terminal at a key international airport in the central region. The project is part of a broader infrastructure upgrade aimed at expanding freight handling capacity and supporting economic growth in the region.
The new terminal will be built on a 2.46‑hectare site with an investment of VND 631 billion (about US $24 million), and is designed to handle up to 100,000 tonnes of air cargo per year once fully operational. This represents a substantial increase over the previous facility’s throughput, which was operating significantly above capacity in 2025.
Officials say the expanded cargo facility will play a key role in improving logistics efficiency and supporting the regional supply chain, enabling more reliable handling of imports and exports by air. The terminal’s design incorporates smart and green technologies, including AI‑based applications and renewable energy systems, aligning with broader trends in modern logistics facility development.
This development is one component of a wider set of upgrades being undertaken at the airport in 2026, which also includes expanding passenger terminal capacity and other infrastructure enhancements to improve service quality and accommodate future growth in both passenger and cargo traffic.
